I’ve mentioned this before but it’s worth repeating. The finish work you do on your doodles is what makes it art. It’s subtle sometimes. Other times it’s drastic. But it’s important. It gives your lines dimension and makes them more solid. Check out this before and after. Then try it.

I’m both shocked and thrilled that my marker test was a success! No bleed-through at all. This book really is perfect now. Toothy paper perfect for colored pencils and thick enough that markers don’t bleed through. I mean, come on…

I drew this with a Sharpie in my new Kraft paper sketchpad. When I had everything drawn except the wind at the top left, I showed it to my husband and said, “Something’s missing. What does it need?” He suggested the wind. This is why I keep him around.
